Next Steps for Community Healing

I would like to thank all those who participated in the Community Conversation yesterday as we came together to begin the process of healing from the incident that impacted our campus this weekend. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and a few supportive friends of the university filled the room and many more joined online.  I want to emphasize that this was just the beginning. We know that healing is a process and that it is different for each individual. We must continue to support one another in the coming days.

As we move forward, plans are already underway for continued counseling sessions in each of the residence halls this week, and additional meetings with various campus constituent groups for discussions specific to the groups' needs. The Student Government Association has set a meeting for all undergraduate students on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2-3:30 pm in J.E. Proctor, room 102. This will be followed by sessions for faculty, staff, graduate students, and parents and families to be scheduled within the next week.  Each of these meetings will provide opportunities for reflection, questions, and access to resources for mental wellness.

Please remember that the university has many resources available to you for the asking. Below are just a few with links to access details of their services.

Many questions were submitted online during yesterday’s session and we are working to respond to them this week. Information will be shared on how you will be able to access the responses.

Please continue to share any questions or suggestions that you have during the upcoming constituent group sessions. It will take all of us working together to map the next steps to come to protect the health and well-being of the Bowie State University community.
