Continue management of solid waste through increased recycling and/or reusing

    Tasks:

    • Implementation of “Please Don’t Take A Bag Program”
    • Offer reusable bags for purchase
    • Use recyclable and biodegradable bags
    • Enhance the marketing of the buyback book program
    • Increase digital book options
    • Increase eco-friendly gift and clothing items
    • Collaborate with Procurement Services to provide electronic battery drop off in Bookstore

    Measure of success:

    • Decrease plastic bag usage by 5% in year one and 10% in year 2
    • Number of students participating in the buyback program increased by 3% year one and 5% year two
    • Digital book options increased by 3% year one and 5% year two
    • A minimum of 10 eco-friendly gift and clothing items offered at the bookstore annually
    • Electronic battery drop off station in bookstore

    Tasks:

    • Create a statement of work to include the problem and timeline
    • Form task force through recommendation from VP, other cabinet members, C4 and Student Life
    • Hold meetings to gather recommendations
    • Form and submit proposal

    Measure of success:

    • Decrease in types of recycle bins across campus
    • Decrease in amount of landfill waste from BSU over time
    • Increase in amount of recycable items

    Time frame: Fall 2022

    Tasks:

    • Take recommendations from task force on recycle bins for rooms and in common areas
    • Purchase recycle bins for residence halls
    • Renegotiate ABM contract in residence halls to allow for increase in bin collection and proper hauling

    Measure of success:

    • Number of recycle bins in residence halls

    Time frame: Spring 2021-Fall 2021

    Tasks:

    • Identify locations for collection points and persons responsible for collection
    • Purchase collection bins (if necessary)
    • Set up a location in the residence halls and academic buildings to collect unwanted books for recycling.

    Measure of success: 50% increase in recycled books after 2 years

    Tasks:

    • Identify locations for collection points and persons responsible for collection
    • Purchase collection bins (if necessary)
    • Set up ink Recycling boxes through out the campus and keep track of the usage.  

    Measure of success: 25% increase in ink cartridges recycled

    Time frame: Spring 2021 - Fall 2021

    Tasks:

    • Research and review similar programs at other institutions
    • Create student based team to design and coordinate program
    • Establish general rules, list of items and come up with incentives, design t-shirts,  etc. for the team
    • Contact local agencies such as Goodwill and Best Buy to team with for disposal of clothing and e-cycled items
    • Create flyers and social media buzz of items that can be donated during move-out
    • Coordinate with Facilities Management on storage of items

    Measure of success:

    • Number of items donated
    • Number of students who participate in 1) donation, and 2) receiving items
