The Culture of Black Hair

Thesis Statement

I’ve always loved natural hair and the concept of hair truly resonates with me. Hair can express so much about a person even when words are not spoken. It is a silent translation of someone’s personality. Black hair is something that I truly value and it means so much to me.  I have often explored the topic of hair through my class projects and I wanted to continue this with my senior project. I’ve created vinyl covers that depict different “volumes” or styles of black hair. Throughout pop culture, hair often makes a stamp for many artists. I would love to educate others about the beauty of black hair in pop culture and the many influential and inspirational hairstyles worn today. There’s a story in our tresses and this story truly deserves to be heard.
