Jan. 28 Transition to Virtual Operations, Campus Closed

Bowie State University will be transitioning to virtual operations for all classes and office operations on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. The campus will be closed to all non-essential personnel, and all campus activities are canceled. All buildings except residence halls will be closed. Essential personnel should report on time. This is due to the extended time required to clear the extensive snow and ice accumulation on campus. University crews are making every effort to resume campus operations, as a safe return to in-person learning and work remains our top priority. Student Learning Outcomes

Candidates will demonstrate:

  1. A knowledge base that includes a multi-disciplinary academic program of study, a knowledge of pedagogy and a knowledge of learners and their characteristics
  2. Knowledge of education theory, effective curriculum, instruction and assessment practices, current and relevant issues in education, ethics, and professionalism
  3. Instructional practices reflective of sound knowledge of content, educational theories, and evidenced-based instructional strategies specific to the field of elementary education
  4. Instructional planning, classroom management and assessment skills in a classroom setting
  5. Intercultural competence in addressing civic, social, environmental and economic issues
  6. Proficiency in being a reflective practitioner as well as in interpersonal, oral and written language skills
