The U.S. Department of Education has committed to assisting universities in providing students Nationwide a safe environment in which to learn and to keep students, parents and employees well informed about campus security.  These goals were advanced by the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990 also known as the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).  The Department of Education is committed to ensuring that post secondary institutions are in full compliance with the Clery Act as required for all colleges and universities that participate in federal financial aid programs.  These institutions of higher learning must keep and disclose information about crime on and near their respective campuses.  Bowie State University is committed to providing an academic and work environment free from all forms of discrimination, including discrimination on the basis of sex.  Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibit discrimination on the basis of one's sex in federally-funded educational programs and activities, as well as in the terms and condition and privileges of employment.  The Bowie State University prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in its educational programs and activities.
