Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act
What Is the Clery Act?
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, or Clery Act , is a federal consumer protection law that requires all colleges and universities to provide transparent information about crime policies and statistics that occur on or near campus. In compliance with the Clery Act, Bowie State University publishes an Annual Security & Fire Safety Report that includes three years worth of information, including crime statistics and security measures
Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
Bowie State University’s Annual Security & Fire Safety Report is available online at https://bowiestate.edu/annual-security-and-fire-safety-report .
This report applies to Bowie State University, the Universities at Shady Grove, and The University System of Maryland at Hagerstown Campuses.
The report contains information regarding campus safety and security, including topics such as: campus law enforcement authority; crime reporting policies; campus alerts (timely warnings and emergency notifications); programs to prevent dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking; the procedures the University will follow when one of these crimes is reported; Hazing policies and programming; and other matters of importance related to security on campus. The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on-campus; in on-campus student housing facilities (only for Bowie State University); in noncampus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus locations.
Additionally, the report contains fire safety policies and procedures, as well as fire statistics for any fires occurring in on-campus student housing facilities during the three most recent calendar years. The Fire Safety Report section does not apply to the Universities at Shady Grove or The University System of Maryland at Hagerstown Campuses, as those campuses do not have on-campus student housing facilities.
