BSU/PG County Webinar Series

We are pleased to announce the launch of a four-part webinar series with Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) to support students in its Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program in Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (HSEP). The focus of the series by BSU will be to highlight academic programs at the university that align with the HSEP pathways in Homeland Security Sciences, and Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement. BSU will also utilize the webinar series to engage HSEP students with an array of academic programs and student support services, as well as initiatives and centers that foster career development and enhance their marketability upon graduation.

Academic Programs and Services

Computer Science Department in collaboration with other academic departments, representatives from across the university will inform the series. Among others, the series will highlight the value of programs in Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Foreign Languages (Languages and Culture), Technology and Security, and Management Information Systems. Admissions, academic services, student services and career counseling staff will also share information. The design of the webinar series with BSU will bring to light the many academic offerings and services available to BSU students in preparation for the expanding careers that await them upon graduation.

Innovative Centers for Career Preparation

The BSU webinar series will feature several dynamic centers that characterize Bowie State’s cutting-edge approaches to college preparation for career readiness around the mission of homeland security as a national priority. Interactive presentations will lead CTE students through an encounter with BSU’s National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education, Center for Cyber Security and Emerging Technologies, and Entrepreneurship Academy. Webinar participants will also learn about the Entrepreneurship Living Learning Community (ELLC), another way BSU connects students to the community and the workplace. With housing for 500+ students, retail space and resources for entrepreneurs, the ELLC is a real-world innovation hub that encourages creative collaboration and entrepreneurial thinking among students and educators alike.

Career Preparation

The BSU webinar series is designed to engage students with information about the eclectic academic and career landscape at BSU that fosters next-generation innovators. Webinar participants will have the opportunity to learn about such initiatives as BSU’s collaborative partnership with The National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security to increase the pool of locally educated cyber security professionals. Those attending the webinar series with BSU will experience what it is like to engage with faculty thought leaders, industry professionals and practitioners in a variety of venues. In the process, PGCPS students in CTE will gain a glimpse of the transformational experiences that BSU is creating to empower its diverse student population to enter the workforce with a growth mindset to reach their potential.
