ABET Accreditation

Accreditation from the Accreditation Board of Engineering & Technology (ABET) provides assurance that a college or university program meets the quality standards of the profession for which that program prepares graduates. ABET accredits programs, not institutions. It provides specialized accreditation for postsecondary programs within degree-granting institutions already recognized by national or regional institutional accreditation agencies or national education authorities worldwide.

The BS in Computer Science program in the Department of Computer Science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.

Program Educational Objectives

Three to five years after graduation, the graduates from the Computer Science program will:

  1. Apply theoretical principles, practical tools, and techniques in computing to solve real-world problems to facilitate successful careers in computer science and related fields. 
  2. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and professionally, individually and in team environments, with colleagues and clients of varying backgrounds. 
  3. Demonstrate an ability to improve and expand career skills through graduate studies, continuing self-directed learning, and professional development

Student Outcomes

Graduates of the Computer Science Program will, by the time of graduation, have the ability to:

  1. Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
  2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
  3. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
  4. Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
  5. Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.;
  6. Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions.
