Undergraduate Nursing Admissions

 

The Department of Nursing follows the admission policy set forth by the University. Students are encouraged to declare their majors in the freshman year so that an Academic Advisor can be assigned, and the nursing curriculum can be followed as outlined by the Department of Nursing. The Department of Nursing has instituted the following admission process for students:

  1. Obtain general university admission through the Bowie State University Office of Admissions
  2. Apply for the nursing program.
    1. Complete the Nursing Program application
    2. As part of the application, you will be asked to:
      1. Submit an essay (details available in NursingCAS)
      2. Submit two reference letters
      3. Submit official academic transcripts to NursingCAS

  3. Successfully complete the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), the nursing entrance exam taken through Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI).
  4. Demonstrate evidence of the following grade point average (GPA) requirements:
    • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better
    • Science GPA of 3.0 or better (science courses must be within five (5) years of the admission application.)
