Bowie State University has built a rich infrastructure for research, teaching and learning. In the Department of Natural Sciences, the Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) offer undergraduates early and extensive opportunities to become engaged in research within their fields beyond the traditional classroom setting.

CUREs engage whole classes of students in a research question or unique problem that is of interest to the scientific community. Research experience is essential to the education and professional development of undergraduate STEM majors. CURE research streams feature unique research projects, leveraging faculty expertise across the Department of Natural Science's core curriculum. CUREs offer multiple opportunities for undergraduates to explore research as a further career pathway and to develop hands-on laboratory, technical, and computational skills.

If you are a student, there is something for you. Without any GPA requirements or prior experience or knowledge, you can enroll in one of the CURE courses featured in the Department and work closely with a faculty research mentor, laboratory coordinators, and your peers within one of many exciting research streams. Check out the featured CURE course listings, and be sure to register early for the right course section.

Bowie State University has also taken the lead in a broader conversation about pedagogy and experiential learning. We have hosted faculty and institutional training workshops, designed to foster a culture of research and to teach the mechanics of developing CUREs. At Bowie State University, CURE research streams are designed to complement and build upon one another in order to enhance student learning and impact, from freshman year through senior year.

We invite you to explore our website and contact us if you would like additional information or to partner with us.
