Leadership Overview

Dr. Jared E. Moffett serves as the Executive Director of Career and Experiential Education and founding leader of the Engage Center for Experiential Learning and Career Readiness at Bowie State University.

The Engage Center represents a new, innovative approach to student success—bringing together the work of three distinct offices into a single, integrated hub designed to strengthen experiential learning, career readiness, and employer and community engagement across the university.

Under Dr. Moffett’s leadership, the Engage Center unites services, programs, resources, and partnerships into a cohesive, student-centered model that intentionally connects classroom learning with meaningful experiential and employment opportunities. His work focuses on embedding career readiness and experiential learning into both the curriculum and cocurriculum to prepare students not only for employment, but for long-term occupational wellness and lifelong success.

Biography

With more than 25 years of cross-sector experience spanning higher education and K–12 education, Dr. Moffett is a mission-driven, multidimensional servant leader dedicated to advancing student learning, development, retention, and success. His core expertise centers on strategically implementing evidence-based, high-impact practices aligned with national standards to elevate students’ career outcomes and occupational well-being. At the intersection of career readiness and experiential learning, he empowers students to thrive academically, professionally, and personally—preparing them not simply for a job, but for a fulfilling life and career. Rooted in equity, innovation, and transformation, Dr. Moffett designs sustainable systems, builds collaborative teams, and cultivates strategic partnerships that shape purposeful, future-ready graduates.

Dr. Moffett joined Bowie State University in January 2023 as the founding Director of Experiential Learning and now serves as Executive Director of Career and Experiential Education. Prior to Bowie State University, he held multiple leadership roles at the University of the District of Columbia, where he served as Executive Director of Career Services, Director of Career Services for both the Main Campus and the Community College Campus, and Adjunct Professor.

Earlier in his career at Northern Virginia Community College, Dr. Moffett served as Special Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Services, Founding Assistant Coordinator of Cooperative Education, Career and Academic Counselor, and Faculty Professor in the Student Development academic department. His K–12 experience includes service as a School Guidance Counselor at Digital Harbor High School and Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School within the Baltimore City Public Schools System.

Dr. Moffett has also held roles in community health and mental health organizations, serving as a Mental Health Assistant Counselor, Addictions Counselor, Counselor Technician, and Behavioral Intervention Teacher. A committed educator, he has taught college-level courses in behavioral health, counseling, psychology, education, and student development, reflecting his interdisciplinary expertise and student-centered approach.

Born and raised in Cumberland, Maryland, Dr. Moffett is a proud graduate of institutions within the University System of Maryland.
