Bowie State University & IBM Skills Summer Academy Workshops
Overview of the Summer Academy

The Bowie State University Departments of Computer Science (CS) and Mathematics partnered with the IBM Skills Academy to provide professional development programs to career professionals, students, STEM teachers, community college faculty necessary to compete and excel in the next generation of jobs.
The summer program is comprised of courses in cutting-edge technologies that are having a major impact on the global society. The courses cover the latest technologies and industry practices.
These courses are taught in partnership with the IBM Skills Academy that is responsible for the content and pedagogy. Participants can earn an IBM Digital Badge in the course if they take and pass prescribed assignments and an examination at the end of the program.
The IBM Digital Badge is an extremely valuable credential for the following reasons:
- Global Recognition: You gain instant recognition by organizations across industries and around the world.
- Easy Sharing: You can post your badge to many social media sites and add it to your digital signature, thus allowing you to powerfully showcase your new skills.
- Employment Opportunities: IBM Digital Badges demonstrate proficiency and related technical skills in a particular discipline. Potential employers will be able to use this as part of their recruiting process.
Modality
The classes meet virtually once a week for two hours (at most) followed by self-paced learning for the rest of the week. Preferred meeting time is from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Each course culminates in a capstone project during the final week.
