As a nursing major, your end-of-program student learning outcomes (EPSLOs) will be the ability to:

Implement the nursing process and caring behaviors with individuals, families, and communities.
Utilize critical thinking and clinical reasoning to promote optimal wellness with individuals, families and communities.
Utilize communication, technology, and inter-professional collaboration to provide safe and effective nursing care.

The baccalaureate nursing program prepares students to become generalists practicing within the ethical and legal framework of professional nursing. Your education will equip you to not only meet the changing health care needs of diverse populations, but it will also prepare you to be a leader.

Experience: We offer nursing students cutting-edge technology and virtual simulation, including simulation activities designed to enhance out-of-class learning for our nursing students. The resource center is equipped with resources and technology to simulate a daily nursing experience to actively engage critical thinking and independent judgment skills. Clinical faculty support students as they learn to transform knowledge to practice. Our students also benefit from virtual practice with SimMan and SimBaby, computer-generated medical scenarios that challenge students to properly manage client assessment procedures. A video camera feature allows students and their instructors to review their client management and applied skills. More importantly, the simulation resources center provides a non-threatening, simulated patient-care setting designed to build student confidence in client care. Our newest technological asset in the simulation resource center is Noel, a “pregnant” female mannequin demonstrating the full life cycle gestation and childbirth. With one-on-one support from qualified nursing faculty, students virtually experience the birthing process and learn the dynamics of a pregnancy and delivery.
Serve: To facilitate hands-on engagement, students complete clinical hours for credit in approved health care agencies, including hospitals, assisted living and long-term facilities. Specific agencies include:

Join: In the spirit of collaboration and camaraderie, we offer the opportunity for students to join two nursing student organizations. The Student Nurse Association, a pre-professional organization open to all nursing and pre-nursing students, provides students opportunities in service learning, scholarships, student leadership and collaboration with faculty. The second organization is an undergraduate chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., a national organization of professional nurses and nursing students of diverse, cultural and educational backgrounds. Established in 2006, the Lambda Phi Beta,the Chi Eta Phi chapter, is actively involved in the fight against health disparities in our community by promoting health education and disease prevention. The chapter also provides toiletries and canned goods to people in need and raises funds for health organizations.
