(BOWIE, Md.) – Bowie State University’s more than 155-year history encompasses the stories and experiences of the students, faculty, staff and alumni who shape the institution’s legacy. From a school for newly emancipated African Americans in 1865 to today's comprehensive university of more than 6,100 diverse students, the transformative power of the university continues. Taking place Wednesday, April 14 at 10 a.m., this year’s virtual Founders Day program celebrates the accomplishments and pride of individuals from across the Bowie State University community and shows what it means to be #BSU4LIFE. The Founders Day program elevates the voices of diverse members of the Bowie State community sharing the experiences that make them #BSU4LIFE and why they dedicate themselves to uplifting the institution. It also features a notable recent alumna, Chinaka Ukachu (’15), who is achieving excellence in her career because of a strong Bowie State foundation. A medical student at the University of the Incarnate Word, Ukachu has served as a clinical research coordinator at the Naval Health Research Center, working on clinical trials and research studies involving infectious diseases that include COVID-19.
This year’s program will also honor Bowie State’s legacy by highlighting the pivotal moments and significant people, which have made the institution a welcoming and empowering place for generations of scholars. The virtual Founders Day experience connects the #BSU4LIFE expression of today and the pride of those who came before.
